Chiropractic Treatment

The medicinal system that uses manipulation to treat back pain, joint pain and other physical disorders caused by a misalignment of the bony joints, especially in the spine, that can lead to obstruction in  proper nerve function. Shoulders, elbows and hands are also treated, as are hips knees and feet.

Newquay Chiropractic is special as we practice traditionally but can also use other forms of body work such as Cranio-sacral therapy or Bowen to have a more causal/ whole body effect. We also have the ability to refer to other in clinic professionals we can trust if a difficult case needs a change of direction, eg. Nutritionist, councillor, kinesiologist. This way you don’t just become a back or neck that constantly needs the same manipulation every week or month. That is symptom care, useful on the day but ultimately a waste of money long term for you. We want to make long term differences in our patients rather than symptomatic treatment every time. We therefore cater well for chronic patients who need a multifaceted approach to their healthcare.

Chiropractic is now one of the most efficient and cost effective ways to treat LBP. By mixing chiropractic and complementary medicine we believe we can achieve better results for you.

Chiropractic Newquay
Private X-Ray Newquay

X - Ray

Our X-rays are taken by us and results can be given to you immediately. We can also write the X-ray findings in a letter for your GP if needed.
As Chiropractors we are trained to take and read X-rays for orthopaedic purposes, ie. Viewing joints and bone changes in the spine and extremities. We are proud of the quality level of our X-rays and also take them for other Chiropractors in the area who do not have this service. Often if a joint pain has arthritis as the cause it is a useful adjunct to treatment, aiding in understanding what the joint needs therapy-wise and why you are in pain. This can help in long term planning for your recovery to reduce the progressive effect of arthritis.Typical X-rays we take are the lower back and pelvis including hips, knees, neck and shoulder. We occasionally take X-rays of ankles, elbow’s and wrists.

Acupuncture / Dry Needling

Acupuncture is a system of healing developed on China and the Far East, which has been used for over two thousand years. It involves the insertion of sterile needles through the skin which usually does not produce any bleeding at all. It may also involve the use of gentle massage or acupressure; warming with the herb moxa and the application of cups to areas of pain. It is often used to relieve musculo-skeletal pain and arthritic disorders but can also be used in a wide range of other complaints: Dental pain, nausea and vomiting, short-term relief of tension-type and migraine headaches, short-term relief of lower back pain, and provide temporary adjunctive treatment for osteoarthritis knee pain.

Our Chiropractors are all trained in using ‘Dry Needling’ so your Chiropractic session will include this if you are willing to give it a try. This type of acupuncture is not a traditional acupuncture session which we can refer you to, however it is using the same needles to release muscle and fascia tension and the acupuncture points are often the same. With us the needles are often just a quick insertion and then removed, whereas traditionally they are left in for 20-30 minutes.

Treatment is tailored to each individual’s needs. Most patients find the treatments both relaxing and revitalising. It can be safely used on all ages and populations.

Bowen Technique Newquay

Bowen Technique

The Bowen technique is a soft tissue remedial therapy. The technique involves the therapist using fingers or thumbs to move over muscle, ligament, tendon etc in various parts of the body.

The work is very subtle, relaxing and gentle, involving no hard or prolonged pressure, which makes it suitable for all ages including new-borns

Many of the moves made are done over recognized trigger points, acupuncture points, or to be specific points on muscles and joints associated with the lymphatic system, muscle reflexes.

Most of the work can be performed through Light clothing, although some Therapists prefer to work on skin.

A feature of the work is that between sets of moves the therapist will leave the room and allow the client to rest. This is a key element of Bowen and is a defining aspect of the technique as well as being one of the most important.  The breaks give the nervous system a chance to establish the correct actions. In the process other information can be gathered by the body and it is common for areas not being directly treated to respond to the treatment.

Treatments have been known to help problems such as : Muscular Skeletal, Hormonal, Allergies, Digestive and a lot more whether they are Acute or chronic.

Massage Newquay

Rubbing of the body: a treatment that involves rubbing or kneading the muscles, either for medical or therapeutic purposes or simply as an aid to relaxation.

The techniques offered at this clinic are:

  • Therapeutic (remedial) massage is a deep massage to erase muscle stiffness and stimulate circulation.
  • Indian head massage works on the upper body and is good for headaches and blocked sinuses.
  • Reflexology is a form of massage in which pressure is applied to certain parts of the feet and hands in order to promote relaxation and healing elsewhere in the body.
  • Aromatherapy massage uses the essential oils extracted from parts of plants or trees for deep relaxation and healing.
  • Sports massage to focus on specific parts of the body to promote tissue healing.

Sports Injury Newquay

Sports Injury Treatment

Sports Massage techniques are used as the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the muscular-skeletal system. The main aim is to restore full function and mobility to muscles and other soft tissues by easing the tension which may have built up in your body during long hours at work or helping to restore maximum performance to an over trained muscle-group of a sports person.

Muscle damage and stiffness can also occur as a result of the overuse of certain muscle groups, whether due to work related factors or through sporting activities. A continuous build-up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons as well as the muscles themselves. Massage plays a big part in the prevention of injuries and is also used as part of a rehabilitation programme to treat an injury.

Sports Massage Therapy combines general and Deep Tissue manipulation with various forms of stretching techniques to loosen up tight muscles, break up adhesions in muscle fibres and restore muscle function. These include techniques such as Soft Tissue Release, Muscular Energy Technique and Neuromuscular technique.

Other Services

Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT)

This is a non-force whole body treatment focusing on the pelvis as the primary fault/distortion leading to changes elsewhere in the spine and skull. SOT ‘blocks’ and reflex points (similar to reflexology) are used to stimulate the body to release injury and distortion in the body.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST)

Excellent with babies and adults. This gentle technique relaxes tension in the soft tissues and is a wonderfully relaxing non-force therapy. It specially fits with chiropractic which emphasises moving bones.

Applied Kinesiology

AK is a system using basic muscle testing for evaluating areas of dysfunction within the body. AK is concerned with neuromuscular function and how it relates to the regulation of structural, chemical and mental physiology. It uses the principle of homeostasis in that the body is a self-maintaining, self-correcting mechanism.

Paediatric Chiropractic

Gentle treatment of new born, infants, toddlers and children of all ages. Injuries in the spine from birth may effect on the nervous system and are thought to create reversible health problems that may be treated with gentle chiropractic techniques. Our chiropractors are qualified to treat children and Mike Noone has done a further Masters degree in Paediatrics in order to be as effective as possible for treating childhood orthopaedic disorders.

Stress awareness

How emotions drive physical patterns: all stress creates a ‘fight or flight’ response and our lack of reaction in modern society locks change in our body that should have naturally been released. This excites areas of our nervous or muscular system leading to an overproduction of chemicals or tension and eventually leading to breakdown of that system.
